Have applied Expulsion and lifting of an entry ban
You must fill in and submit a separate application form to apply to have the entry ban lifted at the same time as you apply for a visitor visa or residence permit.
The applications are processed by different departments at UDI.
-
What happens to my application while I wait?
- The embassy will forward both your applications to UDI together.
- Your application to have the prohibition against entry lifted will be considered first.
- If the prohibition against entry is not lifted, you will be notified. Your application for a residence permit or visitor visa will then be automatically rejected.
- If the prohibition against entry is lifted, you will be notified. Your application for a visitor visa or residence permit will then be sent to another department for consideration. This department will decide whether you meet the requirements for being granted a visitor visa or a residence permit.

How long do I have to wait for an answer to my application?
Expulsion decision
Most people receive a decision within 10 months of the date when the police or UDI opens an expulsion case and sends out advance notice of the case.
Applications to revoke a prohibition of entry
EU/EEA nationals:
Most people receive an answer within 6 months of the date when UDI receives their application.
Nationals of countries outside the EU/EEA
Most people receive an answer within 8 months of the date when UDI receives their application.
If you have also applied for a residence permit, your total waiting time will be the time it takes to receive an answer about lifting the prohibition of entry plus the time needed to receive an answer to your application for a residence permit.
For nationals of countries outside the EU/EEA who, after they have received a prohibition of entry to Norway, became covered by the EEA regulations
If you have handed in all the necessary documents, and UDI believes it is obvious that your prohibition of entry should be lifted, we will process your application within 15 days.
If UDI has asked you to send in more documents or other information, or if we need to investigate further, you will have to wait longer for a reply. When we have received the documents from you, we will continue to process your case.
Appeals concerning expulsions
Within 3 months of the date when UDI and the police receive your appeal, we will either reverse the decision or send your case to the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) to consider your appeal.

What do I have to do if I move before my case is processed?
You are registered in the National Population Register
You have to report your new address to the National Population Register (external website) as soon as you know you will be moving. UDI automatically receives your new address from the register.
You are in Norway, but not registered in the National Population Register
If you are in Norway, and you move before your application has been processed, you must notify the police of your move no later than one week after you have moved. You can notify the police where you are moving to, or where you lived before.
You are abroad
If you are abroad, and you move before UDI has processed your application, you must notify the embassy or consulate where you submitted your application. If you fail to do this, you risk not receiving the answer to your application.
