If you are not a Ukrainian citizen, you must have a valid residence permit in Ukraine to be eligible for support.

You will have to organise your trip yourself. UDI is not able assist with arranging tickets, transport or a travel assistant.

Please note that you need to apply at least 16 weeks before you plan to return. If you travel before 16 weeks have passed since you applied, your application may be rejected.

You may apply if you have

• individual or collective protection, or
• a residence permit on humanitarian grounds after applying for protection, or
• residence based on family immigration with a person covered by either of the two points above

You are not eligible for repatriation support if you are a Norwegian citizen.

What forms of support are given?

You will receive NOK 17 500 in support to return home. This same amount will be granted for each child returning with you. UDI is not able to provide any transport assistance to Ukraine.

Parental consent is required for applications for children under 18 years of age. If both parents reside in Norway, but only one of the parents is returning home with the child, the other parent must provide written consent using the form "Providing consent for a move abroad with children (pdf, 191 kB)".

You must complete the consent form before you start filling in the application.

Parents with children in Norway will not receive support if any children younger than 18 years remain behind without a caregiver.

Confirmation of a move from Norway

Before disbursing cash support, UDI must receive confirmation that you have reported your move to the Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten) (eksternt nettsted).

Acceptable forms of confirmation include:

• a copy of digital confirmation from the Tax Administration that you have reported your move, or
• a copy of your report of a move abroad with a confirmation or stamp from the Norwegian Tax Administration, or
• a written statement from a municipal or NAV employee that confirms that you have reported your move to the Norwegian Tax Administration

You do not have to send the confirmation together with your application, but we must receive your confirmation before you leave Norway. Forwarding a confirmation to UDI.

Not a Ukrainian citizen?

If you are not a Ukrainian citizen, you must submit documentation of a valid residence permit in Ukraine.

Did you come to Norway either as a medevac patient or a relative of a medevac patient?

If you came to Norway as a medevac patient or as a patient’s next of kin, you may apply for repatriation support. Additional travel support for medical needs or for a personal assistant is available from UDI.

UDI can transfer the support funds to a Norwegian bank account or to a Ukrainian bank account. If you have a Ukrainian bank account, you must obtain the following information available before you start filling out the application:

• IBAN number (bank account number)
• SWIFT code
• The name of your bank.
• The address of your bank.
• Your address in Ukraine.

If you move back to Norway, you will usually have to repay all or a portion of the support you received when you left Norway. The amount you will have to pay back will depend on how long you stayed outside Norway.

Rates for the repayment of repatriation grants

If you are moving back to Norway because you had to flee from harassment in your home country, you can apply for an exemption from grant repayment.

You may apply if you have

• individual or collective protection, or
• a residence permit on humanitarian grounds after applying for protection, or
• arrived in Norway as a resettlement refugee, or
• residence based on family immigration with a person covered by either of the two points above

You are not eligible for repatriation support if you are a Norwegian citizen.

In order for us to assist you in moving home, you must have a valid passport.

What forms of support are given?

UDI will pay for your journey and book the tickets for you. You cannot buy plane tickets on your own. You will also receive NOK 15,000 to cover the cost of repatriation. There are similar grants for each of the children returning home with you.
