How do I get the correct parental responsibility registered?
Do you have documentation of parental responsibility?
Please contact the Norwegian Tax Administration (external website) to have the correct parental responsibility registered.
Documentation may be the following:
- A completed agreement about parental responsibility (external website) [in Norwegian only] or a similar agreement
- A ruling from a court that is part of the Council of Europe Convention (external website) or the Hague Convention (external website).
- A ruling from a Norwegian court stating who has parental responsibility.
- A printout of registered information from a Nordic population register authority.

Please contact the District Court where you live [in Norwegian only] (external website).
The District Court determines parental responsibility in cases where it is not documented who the child's mother or father is.
