Renewing resident permits for students is easier with eID

If you are a student 18 years or older and have an electronic ID (eID), you can use your ID to log into udi.no and apply for renewal. By doing so, your application will be formally submitted as soon as you have paid the fee, uploaded your documentation and submitted your application online. You will still need to meet up at a police station to have your photo and fingerprints taken.
How to do it
- When you are going to fill out an online application form, log into udi.no (external website) using an eID (via ID-porten).
- Pay the application fee.
- Upload your documents before you submit your application (i.e. after you have begun filling in the online form, you will be presented with a checklist showing which documents you are to include with your application).
- Once you have completed uploading your documents, click on the “Submit” button. You can submit your application even if you are still waiting for any of your documents. Upload the rest of your documents as soon as you as you have them available so that we can make a decision in your case
- Your application has now been formally submitted. As long as you submit your application at least one month before your permit expires, you will have the same rights while your application is being processed as you had before.
- Make an appointment with the police to have your photo and fingerprints taken. When meeting up at the police station, remember to have your passport with you. It is not necessary to take along any of the documents you uploaded with your application. We will not finish processing your application until you have attended your appointment with the police.
Remember, you must apply well in advance of your permit expiring – at least one month, or preferably 2–3 months, before.
If you do not have an eID
If you do not have an eID / access to ID-porten,
- log into udi.no (external website) using your username and password
- fill out and submit the online application and pay the fee
- make an appointment with the police and take the documents from the checklist with you to your appointment
After you have handed in all your documentation to the police, your application will be registered as formally submitted.
