If the person going to visit you, does not have enough money themselves, you can be a financial sponsor for the visitor and/or let them stay with you. To be eligible, you must submit a sponsorship form. A new sponsorship form was issued on 1 February 2022. It replaces UDI's guarantee form for visitors. 

If you are a financial sponsor for more than one person, you must send a separate sponsorship form to each of those who will visit you. 

How to sponsor a person who needs a visa to visit Norway

• You must fill out a sponsorship form (pdf, 988 kB)
• You must send a completed and signed form to the person who will visit you. The form must be signed by hand. You can send the form to the person who will visit you in the mail, or you can send it by e-mail.
• The person applying for a visa to visit must submit the sponsorship form and their other application documents at the embassy or application center. If the applicant is granted a visa, they must bring the sponsorship form when entering Norway. 

Please note! The sponsorship form can only be used for one entry into the Schengen area. If the applicant has received a valid visa for multiple entries, you will need to complete a new sponsorship form for each visit.

• You must state your social security number in the sponsorship form.

What does it mean to be sponsor?

Providing as a financial sponsor is not the same as guaranteeing that the person visiting you will leave Norway once the visit is over. As the person receiving the visit, you cannot provide this type of guarantee. The immigration authorities will assess whether it is likely that the person who has applied for a visa will return once the visit is over, based on an assessment his/her ties to the home country.
